Fiona IIiff
Fiona Iliff is a Senior Legal Consultant at Wintertons, specialising in Human Rights and Environmental Law.
She provides legal advice and litigation support to communities and individuals seeking to challenge unlawful activities – such as unsanctioned mining activities and developments - that cause environmental harm such as biodiversity loss, and air and water pollution.
She is a dual-qualified Zimbabwean/ English lawyer who began her practice as a legal aid practitioner specialising in refugee and public law in London. Upon returning to Zimbabwe, she worked for many years with human rights law organisations as a litigating lawyer, researcher, and programme manager. She developed particular litigation expertise in compensation claims for victims of human rights violations, and in wetlands protection cases.
In addition to her work at Wintertons, Fiona works as a consultant supporting human rights defenders and civil society organisations across Sub-Saharan Africa. She also sits on various non-profit committees and boards supporting environmental and human rights causes. In 2022, Fiona was selected by the US Embassy as an Emerging Leader in the Rule of Law, for their International Visitor Leadership Program.
